Jimmy Midjawmidjaw ( also spelt ( Jimmy Mijau Mijau ) was one of the group of artists on Minjilang (Croker Island) during the 1960s that included Yirawala, Paddy Compass Namatbara (1890 ro about 1973) and January Nangunyari Namiridali. Their work was collected by Dorothy Bennett, Karel Kupka, and Ronald and Catherine Berndt. In Midjawmidjaw’s later years his painting style changed to broader solid blocks of color with broader brush strokes. A number of similar works are in the National Gallery of Victoria’s collection and can be veiwed on their website.
Jimmy Midjawmidjaw’s paintings are held in a number of major public collections in Australia, and overseas.
