Kupe’e Palaoa A rare royal wrist guard circa 19th Century
Made from marine ivory in a crescent shaped form. One side features a curved surface and the other side is an incurved flat surface. The incurved flat side is lined with two drilled perforations that connect internally. It is pale yellow with a smooth and polished surface. Its colouring is the result of being wrapped in Tī leaves and exposed to sugar cane smoke. This ornament would be worn across the wrist
