This early work by Gunguyuma was collected in Yirrkala in 1968. It depicts Malarrka the sacred turtle depicted in the dreaming site surrounded by other fish. The background crosshatching symbolises the saltwater, sand and sea grass.
Gunguyuma’s work is also represented in the collection of drawings produced in 1947 by senior leaders of the Yirrikala community for anthropologists Ronald and Catherine Berndt.
