Shell Currency (Mwali);  mid 20th Century Massim culture, which includes Gawa Island, Marshall Bennet Islands, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea, Melanesia. The Mwali is made from conus shell, ovula ovum shells, cowrie shells, nylon fishing line and trade beads.   The kula goods are purely traded to increase one’s social status and prestige. The goods are never long in someone’s possession and constantly change hands within the Kula circle.
