This style of spatula is referred to as a clapper.  They are constructed with a slit or groove in the decorated head.  The dense black ebony wood is ideally suited for both intricate design carving and for the ability of it to create a loud clicking sound when struck against a leg or a surface.  The top of the spatula is a highly stylised figurative head. There is remnants of lime infill used to highlight the design. Circa early 20th century. This spatula is in excellent condition, presented on a custom metal stand
