When warfare was discouraged by the early European administrators and missionaries around the turn of the century, the display function of weapons became predominant. These sword club were made from either black ebony or palm wood like this group of four. They all head intricate designs which were often highlighted by lime infill. The clubs were collected in the late 1930’s-early 40’s. There is remnants of lime infill. The clubs show good age and patina
