The food hooks are hung from the logs forming the structure of the ceremonial huts in or under the house. Bilums (traditional Papuans bags), woven baskets, and other containers containing food, weapons or traditional currencies are suspended. This helps to preserve food, and fragile or sacred objects from the vermin. The ancestral figure on this hook has a wonderful animated posture. The hook also shows signs of good usage.
