The Tolai live on the Gazelle Peninsula in New Britian and on the adjoining Duke of York Island. In the mid 19th century the population was round 15,000.  The Tolia lived in small scattered villages.  The Tolai were known for two organisations that existed with in their society: The secret society of the duk duk and the other was the iniet, which for most part operated secretly.

Im not sure of the function of these birds, however I have seen examples from the late 19th century.   The birds are being sold as a pair.   They come on two high quality metal stands.
